PEARL JAM ARE CURRENTLY IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON NEW MATERIAL

Here is a new dutch interview with Stone.  Last paragraph says PJ are currently working on new material in Seattle.  Fits the timeline with what Mike was saying last summer about doing something in 6 months for an EP.

Quelqu'un parle hollandais ?

Latest Pearl Jam Trivia Tidbits

Nothing super major on the Pearl Jam news front as of late, but there are still some great bits of info to be had about the fellas in our band.

Ed Puts Pen To Paper For Pals: First up, the ever magnanimous Ed Vedder wrote a fantastic note offering his support and enthusiasm for former Dead Moon members Fred and Toody Cole’s latest musical venture, Pierced Arrows. The record label Viceland Records has the best writeup about the whole process, including Ed’s old school way of communicating:

When the guy from Pearl Jam found out that Vice was releasing the new Pierced Arrows album (because we told him) he insisted on writing a blurb for the press materials (because we asked him). Yesterday morning that blurb arrived in the form of a handwritten note from Eddie Vedder.

Like transcendentalist icon Henry David Thoreau, Vedder does not subscribe to our culture’s pervasive sense of technological determinism and so abstains from such depersonalizing contrivances as email and ichat to conduct his business, relying instead on traditional means of interaction like letter-writing, and having his assistant read him his emails over the phone and then faxing Eddie’s response to whoever sent the email.

Image

Viceland Records goes on to say:

We love this note not only for its potent quotability and rubber-stamp Republican joke, but for the way several of its major elements neatly encapsulate the jumbling, tousle-headed stewpot of paradoxes that is the Vedman:

1. He forswears email, yet regularly employs the @-sign in lieu of “at.”

2. He claims to be a longtime fan of both Dead Moon and ladies’ rights, yet consistently fails to capitalize the name of the band’s sole female member.

3. He qualifies Fred and Toody’s “rock n roll-ness” by referencing a Thelonious Monk album. (That would be the “Straight No Chaser” part – Kath)

As baffling as it is challenging and powerful.

By the way if you missed that link in the first line, Vice Records just put out the new Pierced Arrows album. Click here to buy it. It rules so good.

Pierced Arrows hit the road soon, kicking off their U.S. Tour February 23rd in Fargo, North Dakota and wrapping up April 13th in Pontiac, Michigan (whew!) Check ‘em out, yo! Full tour listing here.

Pearl Jam's Mike McCready Branches Out for Eerie 'Fringe' Score
http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/;kw=[8662,144422]

Afew months ago, producers of the Fox science fiction show Fringe contacted Pearl Jam about using their song "Just Breathe." After some back and forth they wound up with something even better: guitarist Mike McCready offered to compose the score for the entire episode. "I wasn't a huge fan of the show at first — but now I totally am," says McCready. "I like X-Files-type shows with government conspiracies and extra terrestrials and all that." The episode, titled "Northwest Passage," airs tomorrow.

McCready recently wrote the score for the surfing documentary Westsiders, and nearly a decade ago he contributed some music to Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, but this is his first foray into television. "It's a completely different kind of songwriting than what I'm used to," he says. "Chris Chilton, who writes the music, gave me some ideas and I transcribed them on guitar. They told me they wanted some sort of Northwest, dark-type feelings. It's a very dark show, so I played a darker kind of guitar tone and even stuff that doesn't sound like guitar, and a little bit of piano." Trent Reznor previously teamed with the Fringe crew for a promo spot that aired last October.

The guitarist hopes to devote more of his time in the future to writing scores for movies and TV. "I like to have a lot of different creative outlets," McCready says. "It means working with a lot of people — directors, editors, musical supervisors and you have to appease all of them. I'm totally up for it."

In the meantime, he's keeping his day job in Pearl Jam, who just launched an American tour at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. "Our first show in New Orleans was a little shaky," he says. "We could have probably rehearsed a little more. The crowd seemed to love it though. I'm probably overanalyzing it. The second show in Kansas City was fantastic. Jeff Ament and I have been wanting to come back to the Midwest for a while because we've been neglecting it."

McCready says the band functions best when they do short tours spread throughout the year, rather than long slogs. "We're getting older and we've had some success so hopefully we can kind of call our shots more so than we have before," he says. "We've done those long and draining tours, but we probably never will again. We want to have a life outside of Pearl Jam, too."

Pearl Jam's Mike McCready ... upcoming PJ reissues: A Music Mix Q&A!

http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/05/07/pear ... nge-score/

...
So speaking of Pearl Jam, when’s the next anniversary reissue coming out?
Vs.? I wish I knew.
[NOTE: PJ Central says they’re not sure yet, maybe fall, nothing definite yet.]

Were you please with how the Ten one came out?
I was very pleased. I think there were four varieties of it? I thought the biggest one was certainly the coolest. Jeff and Eddie, who are really very much our archivists, they still have so much stuff lying around. And Ed took a lot of his own time to be meticulous and go over his notebooks and pictures and memories and ideas, as did Jeff, and I think they spent a lot of love and time doing that, honestly. On Vs., we were just talking about it yesterday backstage — apparently there are some outtakes that were pretty cool. One called, I think, “Indian Beetles” or something like that. Just old tunes from around that time that never made it onto Vs., that Ed had listened to and thought maybe we could throw some lyrics on a few things, and add that to it.
